How We Work

Exploration first. Then a tool. Then a standard others can adopt.

Then we keep it current, because a tool only helps while it is right.

  1. Step 1

    Explore

We start with the source: the law, the contract, the budget, and the people who work under them. We say what the evidence does not show.

  2. Step 2

    Build the Tool

What we find becomes something people can use: an explainer, model contract terms, a checklist, or draft policy language.

  3. Step 3

    Make It a Standard

Each version is numbered and shows how we built it, so a state or city can adopt it by name.

  4. Step 4

    Learn and Revise

The people using it tell us what breaks. We fix it in the open.

Keep It Current

Think of It This Way

$11 saved for every $1 spentwhen communities adopt the latest building codes.

National Institute of Building Sciences, Natural Hazard Mitigation Saves, 2019 ⓘ

A nonprofit, the International Code Council, writes model codes and updates them every three years. Towns adopt them into law. That is the model for our tools.

Gatherings

Standards hold when the people who use them help shape them.

Budget-Making Briefings and Fellowship Retreats seat public leaders and industry as peers.
